Dupatta
The word Dupattā, derived from Middle Indic elements stemming from Sanskrit, is a combination of du- (meaning "two", from Sanskrit dvau, "two") and paṭṭā (meaning "strip of cloth," from paṭṭaḥ), i. e., scarf usually doubled over the head. A dupatta is traditionally worn across both shoulders and around the head. Dupatta can also be worn like a cape around the entire torso.
Mora dupattas are lighter, more summery versions of the shawls where I collage various textiles together that inspire my colour palette or texture placements. I also play with intricate patchworks in the dupattas to bring out the craftsmanship of “stitching”.
With Mora dupattas, I keep myself connected to the roots of Mora, using textiles that I associate with my childhood and early years of learning about textiles. You will see in the Dupattas of Mora 2021, a diversity from Kanchipuram, Venkatagiri, Uppada, Ikat, Sanganer, Sambalpur, offering temple borders, prints and geometric patterns.
