The Story
Double-sided natural dyed, handspun Eri silk shawl by dyers and weavers of Assam

Vera is confident, urban, bold, living a unique blueprint of life. She does not hesitate. She smiles. And she chooses her reasons to smile. She thinks. And she chooses what she thinks about. She speaks. And she speaks in measured ways. She has held the reins of her heart with her. Not easily wavered. Not easily charmed. Not the “not knowing one”. She is a genuine, “as it is” woman. She says as it is, does as it is, feels as it is. In that way, Vera is clear, not confused. And never confusing to others. It is her natural clarity that keeps her in command. Others naturally follow..

Vera is joined as a steadfast stitch of panels dyed with Lac on one side and Indigo on the other. Each panel highlights the intricate stitching involved in binding textiles of various textures and densities together.

About Eri silk:
Eri Silk is a wild silk with a woolly fibrous filament hand spun into yarn, handwoven on traditional throw shuttle looms of Assam. These are woven on looms that are simplified older looms where the basic main frame is formed using four posts or pillars dug steadfastly into the mud ground. This Eri Silk is handspun by adept spinners of Assam without using Charkha. The journey from cocoons to handspun yarn involves a spinner performing a series of steps for the appropriate treatment of cocoons that can enable hand spinning of yarn. These steps have remained unchanged through generations of the hand-spinning culture of Assam. We have retained the indigenous steps without much alteration.

Vera is a one-of-a-kind textile designed to highlight a unique coming together of various techniques and creativity of handcraft. This design will not be recreated.
