Handspun Indigo dyed Eri Silk woven on throw shuttle look with hand spun nettle borders and Pallu
This Sari was designed with Radha as my muse. To have her travel to Nepal, trek with me in the mountains, share those two weeks with me, and finally wear this sari in the street of Bhaktapur was a dream I had not dare to dream. This arrived in my life as a gift that keeps on giving.
When I saw Radha walk out of that ancient door wearing this sari, I was reminded of the gratitude I must never stop feeling towards all the grace that comes to my life without seeking.
Praise the rain; the seagull dive
The curl of plant, the raven talk—
Praise the hurt, the house slack
The stand of trees, the dignity—
Praise the dark, the moon cradle
The sky fall, the bear sleep—
Praise the mist, the warrior name
The earth eclipse, the fired leap—
Praise the backwards, upward sky
The baby cry, the spirit food—
Praise canoe, the fish rush
The hole for frog, the upside-down—
Praise the day, the cloud cup
The mind flat, forget it all—
Praise crazy. Praise sad.
Praise the path on which we're led.
Praise the roads on earth and water.
Praise the eater and the eaten.
Praise beginnings; praise the end.
Praise the song and praise the singer.
Praise the rain; it brings more rain.
Praise the rain; it brings more rain.
(Thank you Radha for sharing this beautiful poem)
Radha is the Founder and Director of Banyan Tree Circles, which reflects the sacred relationship we have with ourselves that threads to the collective character of our work. With over 20 years in not-for-profit leadership, she brings a wealth of experience in building inclusive and accessible workplaces, organisational development, health promotion and mindfulness, trauma-informed practices, public education, and curriculum development. After decades of working with trauma-informed populations, she has built and spearheaded strategic initiatives relating to homelessness, gender justice, and sexual health. She has also been a former Executive Director of the AIDS Committee of York Region and Blue Door Shelters, where she offered resilient solutions from the ground up. From my personal experience with her, she brings a deep understanding not only of anti-racism and anti-oppression practices but also opened my personal views surrounding poverty, homelessness and addictions. She will continue to be “my north star of purpose”.
