The Story
Natural dyed, handspun, handwoven Eri silk accredited to weavers and dyers of Assam.

Nazuksi represents a camaraderie of natural dyes, each hue a new composition from gifts of nature: Sappanwood, cowdung, indigo and Myrobalan.
When Eri silk fibre comes into the expert hands of artisans of Assam, they turn fibre into yarn spun gently through their seasoned fingers. No charkha can absorb the gentleness required to spin the delicate fibres of Eri silk. No other tools are needed to spin these yarns except a simple stone-weight drop spindle. When this yarn needs to be woven, a frame amidst the four pillars is dug into the earth. With minimum basics, a loom is created. That loom turns yarn into weaves. These yarns get dyed with no chemicals, no machinery, no large drums, and no heavy-duty set-up. Just sustained fire in the courtyard, experience in the hands and minds, raw materials from nature and the deftness to use with grace what nature offers with grace.

About Eri Silk and Natural Dyeing:

Eri Silk is a wild silk with a woolly fibrous filament hand spun into yarn, handwoven on traditional throw shuttle looms of Assam. It is elegant in drape, and subtle in appearance and the texture of the fabric does not carry the obvious lustre that we typically associate with silk. Eri Silk being a protein fibre absorbs most natural dyes.

Natural Dyeing involves a series of high-precision steps to bring out adequate conditions for textiles to absorb and retain dye. With non-injury as our core totem, we have given colour to this fabric using those natural sources that are procured locally, leaving the least violent footprints on life and nature. The dye raw material is natural i.e. plant and resin-based, instantly compostable, non-industrial and non-toxic.

Nazuksi is joined as a steadfast stitch of panels and patches. Each panel highlights the intricate stitching involved in binding textiles of various textures and densities together.

Nazuksi is a one-of-a-kind textile designed to highlight a unique coming together of various techniques and creativity of handcraft. This design will not be recreated. Nazuksi comes with a blouse fabric designed to encourage Mora fireflies to bring their authentic spirit to the fabrication of blouse fit, usage of borders and edgings. The blouse worn by me is not included.
