The Story
Two-sided Eri Stole holding the patchwork made with cotton

I call this stole Mia. Mia has a unique energy, a unique blend of colours, a world of unique hues achieved from all-natural dyes. Mia is going to draw attention. It will evoke wonder about the nature of its aesthetics. I aimed to create that mood with Mia. Where one takes a second glance to ascertain what exactly they like about what they like.

Mia has two sides. A boxed cotton patchwork side and an Indigo dyed Eri silk side. Eri Silk is naturally dyed, handspun, and woven on a throw shuttle loom in rural Assam.

The construction of the patchwork thrives on a supportive work environment. The tiny pieces of textiles are not easy to handle. Segregating them into colours also requires alertness and innate creative abilities. Knowing what heft and mood of a piece of textile can get stitched to another while understanding the emerging geometry is another deeper level of visualisation. We co-create each of these patchworks. We all have unique skills that merge only when we come together. We lean on each other for that expertise, which only each one of us can individually bring to the patchwork. Mumma holds the ground of patchwork upon which each one of us dances and performs our perfect move!

Mia is a one-of-a-kind textile designed to highlight a unique coming together of various techniques and creativity of handcraft. This design will not be recreated.
