Kanchipuram silk double-sided dupatta
With Mumma, I can visualise an intangible and turn it into tangible. Each panel of a patchwork visualised in the mind is translated into a textile. The asymmetry of it is an act of understanding the inherent symmetry and yet not being confined to it. A straightforward joinery reveals the inherent choice-making process. These choices themselves are designs. Otherwise, they are just joineries.
Maa diyan dibbiyan is joined as a steadfast stitch of panels of Kanchipuram silk. Each panel highlights the intricate stitching involved in binding textiles of various textures and densities together. While retaining the elegance of Kanchipuram silk, I played with colours that represent passion, earthy strength of character and ability of decision making.
Maa diyan dibbiyan is a one-of-a-kind textile designed to highlight a unique coming together of various techniques and creativity of handcraft. This design will not be recreated.
